Semiconductor’s latest contribution to the genre of live cinema is their dedicated live performance software, Sonic Inc; a real-time 3D sculpting tool, with which creations are realized by specific sound inputs and user interaction, to produce dynamic, audio-created, and controlled environments. The visual aesthetic of Sonic Inc. moves away from the high- tech world of computer graphics and towards the inherent visual language of the computer as material. The slick complexity of current computer graphics is stripped back to reveal the basic building blocks of computational visual language. By embracing the computer as co-conspirator, they are revealing new modes of artificial expression.

For 200 Nanowebbers, Semiconductor has created a molecular web that is generated by Double Adaptor’s soundtrack. Rhythms and melodies spawn a nano scale environment that shifts and contorts to the audio through custom-made programming. Layers of energetic hand drawn animations play over the simplest vector shapes that form atomic scale associations. As the landscape flickers into existence by the light of trapped electron particles, subcultures begin to take shape and resemble crystalline substances.
