At the centre of Vivek Patel’s work is the idea that the universe contains a creative energy, which is most accurately represented by music. In turn, music becomes the impetus for visual expression. The visual does not interpret the music, rather it is an imagined expression, which rests on the architecture established by the music. Four Plays uses Yo Yo Ma’s performance of a Johann Sebastian Bach composition and works with the idea of constructing a cello out of musical tones. |
